Countdown to the NHL lockout: 11 days

Where is the past I have been apoplectic about missing NHL hockey during a labour lockout, not so this time. Last season the Leafs finished 14th in the East and 26th overall. The lineup that wasn't good enough last season is pretty much going to be returning intact when the season resumes.

Brian Burke went from being unhappy with his lineup in April when the season ended prematurely for the Leafs was suddenly okay with it in July. Sure he signed a defensive centre and flipped a disappointing Luke Schenn for a disappointing James van Riemsdyk. Meanwhile eastern rivals were aggressive in trying to improve their lineups. Certainly some of these teams will fail but sitting pat is not an option when you're at bottom feeder.

So if we lose 1/2 season because of a lockout, I'm fine with that. It will shorten the pain. Instead I can focus on the high draft pick that the Leafs will be awarded when the bottom out this season. Perhaps this can kick start the hiring of a GM with an actual plan and a real rebuild.
