Brian Burke is turning the Leafs into a small market team

We all can admire a man of principles but Leafs Nation is only interested in one thing - winning. So should Brian Burke.

Burke's stand against long-term, front-loaded contracts is honourable but also stupid. His job is to win hockey games not win friends. It's turning Toronto into a second rate hockey market. Not that his stand against cap circumvention is wrong, it's just that until it's addressed by the NHL you have to play the "game."

Is Brian Burke smarter than Ken Holland or Lou Lamoriello? I don't think so. The Wings and Devils have no problem throwing around big contracts. Damn it even the fucking Minnesota Wild is throwing big money. Burke throws around platitudes.

We pass on Ilya Kovalchuk and sign Colby Armstrong. Burke is desperate for a front line centre but passes on Brad Richards and signs Tim Connolly. So instead of getting better we are treading water at best. We overpay washed up players instead of overpaying stars. That's just nonsense.

I just hope this is Burke's last year in Toronto because I want a GM that will stretch the rules to the limit, that will hound free agents till the give in and spend the owner's money to buy a winner. I'm tired of listening to bullshit.
